Make a Difference! Come to Austin and “BrainStorm” the Capitol to Advocate on Disability Issues that will Affect YOU!
THERE’S STILL TIME TO REGISTER AND PLAN TO ATTEND! CTD is partnering with the Brain Injury Assoc. of Texas (BIATX) to provide a professional, fun and concise convention covering everything you could ask for!
Sunday April 5 starts at 3:30 for registration and 4:00 for our first two political keynote speakers, Rep. Bryan Hughes (center) and Rep. Eddie Lucio III (left). Then a Legislative Issues Briefing and Advocacy Session with Colleen Horton of the UT Center for Disability Studies, ADAPT’s Bob Kafka and CTD’s Dennis Borel. Followed by a cool welcoming reception with heavy appetizers, cash bar, music by Todd Wardell and insight from Rep. Eddie Rodriguez (right).
Monday April 6 starts with breakfast, then a bus ride/trek over to the State Capitol steps for a press conference and rally on the issues we discussed Sunday. Then is the time to put what you’ve learned into practice: visit your legislators’ offices, armed with supporting materials and your own personal stories.
Return to the AT&T Center for Monday’s luncheon with Mark Zupan, 2008 Paralympic Gold Medalist and star of the film “Murderball”.
Monday afternoon April 6, CTD will be offering two CEU classes (one clock hour each):
- Consumer Directed Services and:
- Effective Interactions with People with Disabilities
Approved by: the National Assoc. of Social Workers, TX, The Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, and the Commission for Case Manager Certification. For more information or to register for the CEUs, please contact CTD: (512) 478-3366. Ask for Jodi Park.
Our friends at BIATX area also offering over 12 CEU classes! See www.biatx.org for those courses. But don’t delay! You may book a room at the gorgeous new AT&T Conference Center. The cut-off date is passed for the extremely discounted rate of $85/night, but the hotel has graciously agreed to honor this rate for a small number of extra rooms. ACT FAST and CALL: 512-404-3600 and remember to note you’re booking under the “CTD BLOCK”.
After Monday’s lunch… perhaps a CEU course…back to the Capitol for more advocacy…across the street to the Bob Bullock Museum or the Blanton Art Museum or enjoy the rest of the afternoon touring downtown Austin …the choice is yours.
