CTD member Mikail Davenport, 58, a polio and cancer survivor, cycled for 25 days straight. He towed his wheelchair attached behind, from El Paso to Beaumont, a distance of 950 miles. Mikail hand cycled 40-60 miles per day, without the use of his legs.
During an opportune time period in the 2007 Texas legislative session, Mikail held scheduled television, radio and newspaper interviews in communities along his route. Mikail was prepared to leverage media attention on his incredible feat to thank ride supporters and put a human face on disability issues in front of the Legislature.
Winners of six major media awards since 2003, CTD's public awareness events have successfully drawn attention to critical issues. This webpage, along with a media dispatch system tracked Mikail's progress, observations, and experiences throughout the tour.
