2011 Convention: "Community Living: It's My Choice!"
In Memoriam: Larry C. Gardner
October 16, 1947 to February 12, 2011
Coalition of Texans with Disabilities announces that a lifelong advocate and CTD founder, Larry C. Gardner, passed away on February 12, 2011. Larry was born on October 16th, 1947 in Raton, New Mexico. After his life changing accident in 1969 he moved to Lubbock and fought tirelessly for better services for people with disabilities. Larry also founded a company called LIFE, Lifetime Independence for Everyone. After which he went to work for Advocacy Inc. He always had a kind and loving heart, and was a passionate advocate who fought for and changed government policy.

At the 2011 conference on April 3rd-5th, CTD said a few words about Larry to show how much we appreciated his advocacy work and how much we will miss him. We also presented his brother, Lloyd , with the Justin Dart Award for being an outstanding advocate in his own right and his commitment to helping his brother on all his advocacy adventures. Affectionately known as Larry’s sidekick, Lloyd Gardner exhibits a burning desire to make the world a better place for people with disabilities. Larry is survived by Lloyd and his other brother, Kenneth, and many friends.
